about

The second album by virtual band harefield, recorded in contributor's bedrooms, studios, and fields in Hungary and Britain. Composited and mixed in Shabby Road, Gödöllő. Mastered by Pejkó Balázs in Studio H, Budapest.

From the original CD sleeve notes:
I wanted to get away from my usual way of writing songs, so I began recording short noodles on a variety of instruments. These were moments when I wasn't thinking about a result, but was just lost in playing.

I soon realised that others should be involved, and started asking people to supply their own short samples, recorded any way possible, in any location. From the beginning, two collaborators who really got the idea were Adrienne Thomas and Roger Hillier, both of whose fingerprints are all over this album.

With piles of samples collected, I began to manipulate them into song forms. Some of the early results were surprising, such as when Joe Bell emailed an electronic bagpipe sample on the same day that Malachy Molloy supplied an acoustic guitar recording. Neither knew what the other had done - tempo, key, or feel. I threw them on the same timeline and discovered that they fitted together (Blind Man Shout Out). Chance and accident have been very important in this project.

My thanks to everyone who gave their time and talents without having any idea how their contribution would be used. When it came to the words and singing, the process was a little different - 'Just sing anything' doesn't work, so by default I became the main vocalist, with some great support from more accomplished singers.
Here then is moresongs, follow up to somesongs (2009).
