about

The timescales are a bit compacted here: The first live band I ever saw were The 16 Strings, from Switzerland, playing on a bandstand by the beach in NE England. It was some years later that wounded veterans of the Second World War jeered at our long hair and kaftans.

lyrics

It's about walking the sand, going to hear a band
It's about walking past the grim army of veterans wrecked by war, smoking and cursing:
Is this what we fought for?
For boys dressed like girls with long hair and curls
Who rush to see a band with electric guitars?
Who don't know how we suffered and gave our youth
So they can be young, so their song can be sung. Ha! Is that it?

credits

Drums: Kristian Coburn
Guitars: Konrád Szabolcs Nánássy
Bassline: Unconsciously borrowed from one-time bandmate in 25 Views of Worthing, Malcolm Barrett. Thanks and soz Malcolm.
